Clever Graduation Gift Ideas

By April 20, 2009

Graduation day (StockXchng Photos) Graduation is just around the corner, and even if your child isnít graduating from college or high school, chances are a friend is. So I was about to replenish my stockpile of usual gifts-for-grads Ė a copy of Harlan Cohen's hilarious, helpful book, The Naked Roommate and a gift card for Barnes & Noble (which can be used not only at the obvious, but at university bookstores on more than 600 campuses).

But then I read this adorable suggestion on the College Confidential discussion boards. A mother mentioned that her son had received a box of wonderful, homemade cookies and two postcards from a friend's mom: ďOn one side they said in big letters: I NEED COOKIES! On the other side, she had her name & address on the right, and a stamp. On the left she had a list of cookie flavors he could choose from.Ē Love that idea - it's heartfelt, thoughtful and inexpensive. And any college kid, grad student or 20something would love it!

Need more graduation ideas? Here's a round-up of graduation gift suggestions for college bound kids, as well as new college grads; graduation survival tips to keep everyone healthy and hydrated at the big ceremony; and party planning and buffet advice too. (And if that's not enough, my About colleague, Denise Witmer, the guide to parenting teens, has an entire array of articles on planning graduation parties too.)
