What's in That Care Package?

By March 19, 2012

iStock photo Chocolate bunnies. Marshmallow Peeps. A college care package filled with Easter basket goodness is the perfect way to welcome spring - if, that is, your darling college kid celebrates Easter. But if your family celebrates Passover and you pack holiday-themed goodies off to your freshman (or soph or jr or sr), I'd love to know what you put inside. Chocolate-dipped matzo? Macaroons? Both of the treats you mentioned are great, but I think of them as part of a Passover package, complete with 1 or more haggadahs (books that tell the story of Passover, so a college student can have his/her own seder meal with friends), dried fruit and nuts (traditional components of charoset, a mixture that represents mortar), maybe some silly 10 plagues finger puppets. Also, individually wrapping each item makes it much more fun to open the package.

I plan on adding things that are a reminder of some of the plagues such as squirting frogs, gummy bugs and windup locusts to name a few.
