There are helicopter parents and then - wow - there are HELICOPTER parents. A judge has issued a restraining order against the parents of a 21-year-old college student after their concern over their daughter's welfare turned into a serious stalking case. After installing spyware on their daughter's laptop and phone so they could monitor every keystroke, the parents started popping up at the University of Cincinnati campus, 600 miles away, to accuse their daughter - an honors student - of wild partying and mental instability, doing it so often and to such an overwhelming and threatening degree that college officials had to hire security guards to keep the parents out of their daughter's musical performances.
The young woman filed for a restraining order after her parents threatened to have her forced into psychiatric care during statements made to the music department head and university administrators. Now the university has given the 21-year-old a full scholarship so she can finish senior year - and her parents cannot come within 500 feet of their daughter until next fall.
