FAFSA: Not Just for Freshmen

Dollar (Photo courtesy of David Siqueira, Stock.Xchng) One of the most unpleasant post-winter break surprises of my oldest son's freshman year was the discovery that I was going to have to do the FAFSA *again*. Somehow I'd deluded myself into thinking that it was a one-off! You apply for federal financial aid once and voila, it's automatically renewed for four years. Um, no. Gotta do it every January.

So if you're the parent of a soon-to-be college freshman, or current frosh, soph or junior, get ready. It's nearly FAFSA time. Here's a quick primer on what the FAFSA is and how to fill the blasted thing out. And, um, happy new year!
