1. Health Reform Meant Health Insurance for Young Adults
Families who fretted over their college kids and 20somethings' health coverage breathed a huge sigh of relief when the United States Congress signed the broad health reform bill into law. For the first time, 18- to 25-year-olds - a notoriously uninsured demographic - were covered by their parents' health insurance, regardless of marital or student status. Although the law did not go into effect until Sept. 23, 2010, most of the major health insurers began offering coverage to young adults in May to bridge the post-graduation gap.
