Got a major "Twilight" fan? Whether they're Edward fans or members of Team Jacob, most female teens and 20somethings already have Stephenie Meyer's four vampire books. They've scrutinized every paparazzi-fueled Twilight-tidbit, and seen the first movie several times. So here are other gift ideas for the Twilight fan.
1. Scene It? Twilight Edition
"Scene It?" - the DVD trivia game - has always been fun for group play. But add a "Twilight" element, with plenty of movie clips, Edward and Jacob trivia puzzlers and Twilight-ning rounds and you've got game heaven for vampire-loving teens. (P.S. The Twilight Deluxe Edition game only came out on Oct. 1, 2009, so there's little chance your favorite teen already has it.)
2. "New Moon" Soundtrack
"New Moon" hadn't even hit theaters yet, when the lush, Atlantic Records soundtrack - with songs by Death Cab for Cutie, Muse and the Killers - began climbing the charts.
3. "New Moon: Official Illustrated Movie Companion"
Ditto on the official illustrated movie companion book, which was released before the newest "Twilight" movie, "New Moon" even showed up in theaters. Get in the proper Forksian mind set with this photo-filled exploration of the new movie's cast, locations and sets. Plus, behind-the-scenes stories and trivia tidbits, written by Mark Cotta Vaz.
4. A Twilight Tour of Forks
The hottest new gig for Twilight fans is a trip to Forks, WA, the small forest-y town that is Edward, Jacob and Bella's ficitional home. The town, which is located about three hours from Seattle's Sea-Tac airport, has embraced the Twilight mythos. Hotels have decorated Edward and Bella rooms, and a new store - Dazzled by Twilight - is offering Twilight-inspired products and tours that include the Swan and Cullen homes, Forks High School, La Push and its beaches, and the hospital where Dr. Cullen works. Silly? Sure. Certain to delight Twi-hards? Definitely. ($39 and up for the tour)
5. "Twilight: Director's Notebook"
Stephenie Meyer’s "The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide" ($17.99) won’t be out until late 2009. In the meantime, your "Twilight" fan will likely dive into director Catherine Hardwicke's "Twilight Director's Notebook: The Story of How We Made the Movie Based on the Novel by Stephenie Meyer," a handwritten compilation of sketches, photographs and plans Hardwicke kept during the filming and production process. Loads of photos, insider details and a scrapbook-like, graphic novel vibe makes this a fun pick.
6. "Twilight: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion"
Teens and 20somethings who can't get enough of the movie version of the first book in Stephenie Meyer's popular "Twilight" series will enjoy Mark Cotta Vaz' "Twilight: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion" ($16.99). The book boasts glossy stills from the set, storyboards, interviews and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the production of the “Twilight” movie, starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
7. DVD & Movie Tickets
An evening at the movies is probably as close as your teen is likely to get to date night with Edward. Pick up a DVD or Blu-Ray set of the original "Twilight," which includes music videos, a 7-part documentary on the making of the film and a film snippet about the Comic-Con frenzy that ensued when the stars showed up at the 2008 convention.(Compare prices) Or, buy a gift certificate to a local movie theater or online ticket agency, such as Fandango, for the next flick. "New Moon" opened on Nov. 20, 2009, and "Eclipse," the third movie in the "Twilight" franchise, is scheduled for release June 30, 2010.
8. The "Twilight" Soundtrack
Looking for music? The "Twilight" soundtrack features songs by Muse, Linkin Park, Paramore and other artists. (Compare prices) For the movie's atmospheric background music, pick up the CD version of the Twilight score by award-winning composer Carter Burwell. (Compare prices)
9. "True Blood"
Vampire fiction fans are diving into the "True Blood" saga, based on Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series about a telepathic waitress and an Edward-caliber, Civil War era vampire in Bon Temps, Louisiana. The books (compare prices)are big fun, but the HBO series, created and produced by Alan Ball of "Six Feet Under" fame, is absolutely fabulous. It stars Anna Paquin as Sookie and Steven Moyer as the hunky vampire. Warning: While "Twilight" features plenty of smoldering looks, this is an HBO series with all the graphic-everything that usually entails - sex, blood, gore and violence. Emphatically not for the tween set. Great for college kids and 20somethings, however.
10. Other Books...
Sure, you could dabble in "Twilight" action figures, jewelry, posters and even umbrellas (for Forks weather, of course). But expanding your young adult's library seems a better way to spend money than snapping up tchotchkes. Try Stephenie Meyer's "The Host," a sci-fi, romantic thriller about a love triangle involving just two people - one possessed by an alien. (Compare prices) Also worth a try: The "House of Night" series by mother-daughter duo P.C. and Kristin Cast about a "vampyre" school. (Compare prices)
