Military-Only Class at Ohio State
Thursday October 22, 2009
Fascinating piece in today's Inside Higher Ed about a course at Ohio State, called "Representations of the Experience of War." It's a comp studies class that explores the war experience through literature, art and film. This winter, the university is offering a special section of the class specifically for military veterans, guard and reserves with the idea of fostering a freer, more comfortable discussion environment. The idea, professors say, is to encourage them to talk about their own experiences and reframe their ideas in the historical context - and make it easier for them to talk to family and non-military friends. Later, some of those students may serve as guest lecturers in other classes too.
