A Cozy Fleece Blanket for the Dorm Room

Help your college kid turn his dorm room into a cozy nest by whipping up this simple, fringed, fleece blanket. It will keep him warm and cozy, and remind him of home. And a fleece blanket is a great project for younger siblings to make too.

You'll need:

  • 2 yards of fleece fabric

  • 2 yards of fleece in a complementary color or pattern

  • A rotary cutter or sewing shears

Using a rotary cutter and a cutting mat with printed measurements makes this project significantly easier and faster. You can use either two different fleece fabrics - coordinating plaids or two solid colors, such as a light gray and a heathery blue or bright red - or two pieces of identical fabric. The blanket pictured above used a soft, creamy shade purchased on sale, so the entire project cost $16.
